The Next Arrowverse Show Will Be A CANARIES Spinoff

There might be only one season of Arrow left, but there is plenty of Arrowverse stories to come. Not only is Batwoman premiering soon, but their biggest crossover yet - Crisis On Infinite Earths is happening too. Arrow will not only have to wrap up Oliver Queen's story, but will set up the Arrowverse's newest show too, a Canary show starring Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy, Juliana Harkavy.

One of those names should tip audiences off as to when this is set. McNamara plays the grown up daughter of Oliver and Felicity, in the flashfowards that take place in 2040. If she is involved with the show, it makes sense that this will be a unique entry into the Arrowverse, as it will take place in the future. According to Variety, who broke the story, the show will get a back door pilot in the final season of Arrow. That means one of their 10 precious episodes is accounted for.

This show will join Supergirl and Batwoman as a female shift in the Arrowverse. The Flash will be the only male-lead show in the Arrowverse after Arrow takes its final bow. Even though Legends Of Tomorrow is an ensemble show, the captain of the Waverider is a fellow Canary, played by Caity Lotz

All 3 leads of Canary have been in the Arrowverse previously. Cassidy, who plays Laurel Lance, has been around since Day 1, and has appeared on other Arrowverse shows. Harkavy joined the cast in season 5 as the new Canary, and has also appeared in crossovers and other Arrowverse shows. McNamara is the newest addition, and was just a guest star last season. She has been bumped up to series regular for Arrow's final season.

It always made sense for there to be a 2040 spinoff, given all the groundwork they laid last season. It was just a matter of what form it would take. Now that we know that, it will be interesting to see if there are any present day elements to the show. It is likely that Diggle's son (played by Joseph David Jones) will make appearances too, but that has yet to be confirmed. There was no mention of whether Zoe Ramirez (Andrea Sixtos), Rene's grown up daughter who is also a Canary, will appear. It is probably a safe bet that she does, unless she meets her demise in this upcoming season of Arrow.

One thing is for sure, The CW is in the Arrowverse business for the long haul. It will be exciting to see what comes next.
