Zoe Kravitz Cast As Catwoman In Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN

Matt Reeves new Batman film is starting to take shape. Zoe Kravitz will star as Catwoman along side Robert Pattinson's Caped Crusader, The Wrap reports.

The film is rumored to lean into the detective side of Batman, having him solve a mystery within Arkham. Jonah Hill has been rumored to be playing the Riddler, while Westworld star Jeffrey Wright is in talks to play Commissioner Gordon. The film is not beholden to any previous DC movies, and is able to do its own thing.

Reeves even took to Twitter to confirm the news after it broke.

Kravitz has some superhero cred to her name already, having appeared in X-Men: First Class. She also has done some animated work in the superhero realm. She voiced Mary Jane in Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse, and she has previously played Catwoman in The Lego Batman Movie.

Her other credits include Mad Max: Fury Road and the Fantastic Beasts series.

Selina Kyle has had a complicated history with Bruce Wayne. Sometimes they are adversaries, and other times they get married (Holy Matrimony, Batman!) She was most recently portrayed by Anne Hathaway in a live action setting in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. The character has had many live action interpretations from Eartha Kitt, to Michelle Pfeiffer, to Halle Berry, though that one was not a Selina Kyle interpretation.

Kravitz was one of my choices for Kara Danvers in a Supergirl movie. She was also my choice for Tommy the Green Ranger if 2017's Power Rangers movie had ever received a sequel. Reeves picked her over other frontrunners such as Ana De Armas, Eiza Gonzalez, Zazie Beetz (who just appeared in Joker as a different character) and Alicia Vikander. He is casting very interesting and out of the box choices for The Batman which reinforces how special this film is going to be.

The Batman is scheduled to be released on June 25, 2021.
